I’ve been in Thailand (Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, Bangkok) for three weeks already and haven’t encountered a single mosquito, which is unusual for me since I’m usually eaten alive by them.
You can try getting lemongrass incense sticks from the health shop in Lamai. They work like magic!
I’ve been in Chaweng for 24 hours, and so far, no mosquitoes, but the flies are quite pesky.
Perhaps it varies depending on the location. We visited a few weeks ago, staying just south of Chaweng central along the beach, and encountered no mosquitoes. Despite being prone to mosquito bites at home, I didn’t get a single one there.
In May, Koh Samui typically experiences an increase in mosquito activity due to the warm and humid weather. Mosquitoes are more prevalent in the early morning and evening. It’s advisable to use insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants, and stay in accommodations with screens or air conditioning to minimize bites. Additionally, many hotels and resorts take measures to control mosquito populations on their properties.
